I’m Chris Greenhalgh, and I have over 15 years of hands-on experience in the trade. I founded CMG Heating & Plumbing in 2021 and it is run by me and no one else, with a simple aim: quality work, honest pricing, and clients kept properly informed from first call to finished job. Based in Bolton, I serve homeowners, businesses, landlords and churches in and around the town.

Every job is carried out by me — fully qualified and Gas Safe registered — WaterSafe approved, City & Guilds trained and a member of the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering.
None of that is decoration. Gas Safe registration is a legal requirement, renewed every year, and the gas work I notify can be inspected. CIPHE members are vetted before joining, have to keep their skills current, and answer to an independent complaints panel. If I ever fall short, there’s somewhere to go that isn’t me.
No call centres — you speak to the person doing the work, from quote to finished job.
Clear quotes before work starts — no surprises on the invoice, ever.
Over 15 years in the trade — there’s not much I haven’t seen and fixed.
Bolton based, working in and around the town — your neighbours are my customers.
Sent automatically the moment I start your job, with a rough time, so you are not waiting in all morning.
That text carries a tracking link. Watch where I am on the way to you, updating as I drive.
Photos, gas readings, parts and notes kept against your address, so I can pull your history up years later.
Gas safety records and installation paperwork completed on site and sent as PDFs. Nothing to chase.

Call for a straight answer, or send your details through the booking form and I’ll confirm a date and time that suits.
Yes — £132 including VAT. That covers travelling to you and the first hour and a half on site, which is where most repairs finish. After that it is £45 for each further half hour. It is the same price wherever you are in the area: no distance surcharge, and nothing added on the day.
£105 including VAT, and it is the same price whether you are five minutes away or twenty miles out. That buys a full service to your manufacturer’s own schedule. A gas fire is also £105. For landlords, a Gas Safety Record is £99 on its own, or £150 alongside a service.
On the fixed-price jobs you can book online — a £105 boiler or gas fire service, or the £132 call-out — the price is taken in full when you book. That is the whole price for the visit, not a deposit, and there is nothing to pay on the day unless parts or extra time are needed. Parts are never charged before you have agreed what they cost, and time beyond the first 90 minutes is agreed with you on site. On quoted work, like a new boiler, a bathroom or a heat pump, I take 50% at booking and the balance is due on completion.
Yes — cash, card or bank transfer, whichever suits you, and the price is the same either way. I do not knock money off for cash, because a cheaper cash price only works if the job never goes through the books, and that is tax evasion rather than a discount. Every job is invoiced with the VAT shown, which is also what your guarantee and your certificate hang on.
No — quotes are free and there is no obligation.
Emergencies are prioritised the same day wherever possible. Routine work is usually booked within the week.
Yes — £5 million public liability cover, Gas Safe registered (917962) and CIPHE accredited (129130).
Yes — 24 months on my own workmanship, running from the day the job is finished. Bathroom installations are 12 months, because tiling is subcontracted and I am not the only trade in the room.
Bolton and 20 miles around it — Farnworth, Kearsley, Little Lever, Harwood, Bradshaw and the rest. One price across the whole area, with no travel surcharge and nothing to work out from your postcode. Beyond 20 miles, ask and I’ll tell you straight away.
Most boilers want 1 to 1.5 bar. Top up slowly using the filling loop, then close both valves fully.
A plunger and hot water sorts most blockages. Avoid chemical drain cleaner on older pipework.
Usually a worn washer or cartridge. Fine to try yourself if you are confident isolating the water first.
That is trapped air. Turn the heating off, open the bleed valve with a radiator key until water runs out, then close it and check the boiler pressure. Cold at the bottom instead? That is sludge, and bleeding will not touch it — give me a ring.
Topping it up every week means water is getting out somewhere — usually a weeping radiator valve or a failed expansion vessel. Worth finding before it damages something.
That is usually limescale or sludge in the heat exchanger. It will not settle down on its own, and a boiler working that hard fails sooner than it should.
Nine times out of ten it is the condensate pipe frozen — the white plastic pipe going out through the wall. Pour warm, not boiling, water along it, then reset the boiler.
Anything involving gas is not a DIY job. That is the law as well as my advice. If in doubt, ring me first on 01204 961 827.
Can you smell gas?
Do not touch switches or use naked flames. Open windows, leave the property, and call the National Gas Emergency Service free on 0800 111 999 straight away.
Turn off your stopcock straight away — it is usually under the kitchen sink. Then open the cold taps to drain the system down.
Check the boiler display for an error code and check the pressure gauge, then give me a call and I will talk you through it.
Do not touch the light switch. Turn the electrics off at the consumer unit first, then the stopcock, then ring me.
Turn it off at the switch and put a bowl under it. Do not keep topping the pressure back up — that just pushes more water out.
Once you are safe, call me on 01204 961 827 — emergencies are prioritised the same day wherever possible.
