Heating and plumbing in Kearsley
I am Chris Greenhalgh — Gas Safe and CIPHE registered, based in Tonge Fold, four miles up the A666 from Kearsley, and the man who will actually turn up at your door.
Four miles down the A666, and priced the same as my own street.
Gas Safe registered, working on Kearsley boilers, radiators, gas appliances and bathrooms myself — no call centre, and nobody else turning up in my name.
£132 call-out, includes the first 90 minutes, inc VATInside the same-day area
Same day is a seven-mile promise, not a twenty-mile one
I cover about twenty miles around BL2 2TA, but I only claim same-day availability inside seven of them. Kearsley is 4.2 miles away — nine minutes down St Peter’s Way, so it is comfortably inside. I would rather tell you where that line is than let you find it on the day you need me.
If it is genuinely an emergency and I am already on a job the other side of Bolton, I will say so on the phone rather than keep you waiting. There is no call centre between you and that answer.
Where I cover around Kearsley
The BL4 8 postcodes — Kearsley village and Manchester Road, Kearsley Moor, Stoneclough, Prestolee, Ringley and Spindle Point — plus the Farnworth and Little Lever edges either side.
There is one flat call-out charge across the whole 20-mile area, so Kearsley is not priced differently from anywhere else and travel is already inside it. What being close buys you is availability rather than a discount: the seven miles nearest me are where a same-day slot is realistic when the diary allows, and Kearsley sits well inside them.
What I actually get called to in Kearsley
Recent Kearsley jobs on my system include a full boiler installation signed off with a Gas Safe certificate, a boiler that kept cutting out on low fire and took a manufacturer’s technical line and a new gas valve to settle, a strip-down service with new ignition and sensing probes and an expansion vessel repair, radiators replaced with new valves and the system dosed with inhibitor, a powerflush with a filter fitted afterwards, and a gas hob and a kitchen tap replaced.
Several of those are repeat visits to the same houses, which is the part I would rather you knew than a page full of adjectives. There is also work for a Kearsley building firm and landlord certificates on rented property here.
Three things that come up over and over in Kearsley
Kearsley runs from the older terraces along Manchester Road out to the estates on the Stoneclough and Farnworth sides. Close enough to me that I get called back to the same addresses, and close enough that the same three jobs keep appearing.
A boiler that keeps cutting out is a diagnosis, not a quote
One Kearsley boiler here dropped out every time it went to low fire. A full service did not fix it, so it went to the manufacturer’s technical line, and the answer was a gas valve and injector — not a new boiler. The most expensive answer to a fault is a replacement, and it is also the easiest one to give. I would rather spend the call-out finding out.
Sludge, and why a new radiator on a dirty system disappoints
Cold at the bottom, hot at the top, and one room that never gets going. Fitting a new radiator onto a system full of black sludge just gives the sludge somewhere new to sit. A powerflush, an inhibitor dose and a magnetic filter afterwards is what actually holds, and it is why I fit the filter as part of the job rather than sell it as an extra.
Kitchen appliances that have to be an exact match
A gas hob set into a granite worktop cannot be swapped for whatever is on offer — the cut-out is the size it is, and granite does not get re-cut. Same with a lot of fitted kitchens around here. I measure the aperture and find the like-for-like model before anything is ordered, rather than turning up with a hob that does not drop in.
What it costs
Every figure below is the same in Kearsley as it is on my own street.
Call-out £132
Covers travel and the first 90 minutes on site. Each further half hour is £45. Parts are quoted and agreed after I have diagnosed the fault, never before.
Boiler service £105
Flat, whatever the make. A gas fire service is the same. Add a gas safety record for £150 all in — that is the boiler on the certificate, and £10 for each other gas appliance added to it.
New boiler from £1,799 fitted
A like-for-like combi swap, system flush and magnetic filter included. Moving the boiler, changing system type or coming off a back boiler is priced above it, after a look.
Everything else
Gas safety record on its own £99 for the first appliance, £10 each extra. Leak detection and trace £180, covering travel and the first 90 minutes, with a written report for an insurer at £60. Cancellation or missed appointment £66.
Fixed-price bookings made online — the £105 service and the £132 call-out — take the full amount at the time of booking, and that payment is the whole price for the visit. Quoted work such as a boiler install or a bathroom takes 50% at booking with the balance on completion.
How a Kearsley job runs
- You book a real slot, not a callback. The online form takes the date and the payment, so the job is in my diary rather than on a list I get back to.
- You get a text with an ETA and a live tracking link when I set off. Four miles down the A666 means that window is usually short.
- The certificate is completed on site and emailed before I leave, and the appliance is registered with the manufacturer on your behalf.
- I remind you at about eleven months, so the next service does not creep up on you.
Same engineer, same price, whichever side of Bolton you are on.
You deal with me from the first message to the certificate. That is the whole business, and it is why the work is backed by a 24-month workmanship guarantee on heating, gas and plumbing.
Common questions
How quickly can you get to Kearsley?
Four miles, about nine minutes, so it is inside the area where same-day is realistic when there is a slot. I will give you an honest date rather than promise a time I cannot keep.
Do you charge more because I am not in Bolton itself?
No. One flat £132 call-out across the whole 20-mile area, travel included. No distance bands and no per-mile charge.
My boiler keeps cutting out — repair or replace?
That is what the call-out is for. Some faults are a sensor or a valve and some are the end of the boiler’s life, and the two look identical from the doorway. I will tell you which it is and what each option costs before anything is ordered.
Do you do landlord gas safety certificates in Kearsley?
Yes. £99 for the first appliance and £10 for each extra on the same certificate, or £150 with a boiler service included. The record is completed on site and emailed the same day.
