I cover about twenty miles around BL2 2TA, but I only claim same-day availability inside seven of them. Bury is 5.0 miles away — fifteen minutes along the A58, so it is inside, though it is nearer the edge of that seven than Farnworth or Little Lever are. I would rather tell you where that line is than let you find it on the day you need me.

There is one flat call-out charge across the whole 20-mile area, so Bury is not priced differently from anywhere else and travel is already inside it. What being close buys you is availability rather than a discount: the seven miles nearest me are where a same-day slot is realistic when the diary allows.

Three things Bury calls me out for
Bury runs from the terraces around the town centre out to the semis at Unsworth, Chesham and Elton, and a good number of those houses still store their hot water rather than heat it on demand. Three jobs keep coming back.
Hot water on boost, but nothing on the timer
A Bury customer had exactly this — press boost and you get hot water, leave it on the timer and you do not. That pattern usually points at the immersion element or the way the two are wired, not at the boiler, and it is worth knowing before anyone quotes you for a new system. It was the element, and it was replaced.
Banging pipes after a new combi
Swap to a combi and the mains pressure comes straight through to the taps. Close a lever tap quickly and the whole run can knock. A shock arrestor fitted at the right point stops it, and it costs a few pounds during the install against a day chasing noises afterwards. It goes in as part of my installs rather than being sold to you later.
Toilets that run, and cisterns you cannot get at
A running cistern wastes more water than most people would believe and it is usually a syphon or an inlet valve. The catch is the modern concealed ones: the panel is siliconed on, the part cannot be identified until it is open, and the honest answer is often a visit to look, an order, and a second visit to fit. I will tell you that at the start rather than after taking the panel off.

New boiler from £1,799 fitted
A like-for-like combi swap, system flush and magnetic filter included. Moving the boiler, changing system type or coming off a cylinder is priced above it, after a look.
Everything else
Gas safety record on its own £99 for the first appliance, £10 each extra. Leak detection and trace £180, covering travel and the first 90 minutes, with a written report for an insurer at £60. Cancellation or missed appointment £66.
Fixed-price bookings made online — the £105 service and the £132 call-out — take the full amount at the time of booking, and that payment is the whole price for the visit. Quoted work such as a boiler install or a bathroom takes 50% at booking with the balance on completion.
How a Bury job runs
