Same day is a seven-mile promise, and Breightmet is one of them
I cover about twenty miles around BL2 2TA but only claim same-day availability inside seven of them. Breightmet is 1.1 miles away — four minutes down Deepdale Road, which makes it about as close as it gets. I would rather tell you where that line is than let you find it on the day you need me.
If it is genuinely an emergency and I am already on a job the other side of Bolton, I will say so on the phone rather than keep you waiting. There is no call centre between you and that answer.

The BL2 postcodes around Breightmet — Bury Road, Long Lane, Oakenbottom Road, Tetbury Drive, Crossdale Road, Singleton Avenue and the streets off them — running down towards Tonge Fold and up towards Harwood.
There is one flat call-out charge across the whole 20-mile area, so Breightmet is not priced differently from anywhere else and travel is already inside it. What being this close buys you is availability rather than a discount: at four minutes, a same-day slot is realistic whenever the diary allows.
What I actually get called to in Breightmet
Recent Breightmet jobs on my system include four landlord gas safety records and services done across a portfolio in a single run, a rental refurbishment that turned into a full heating system upgrade, combi servicing, two hot outside taps, and an LPG supply built for a barbecue with the bottles stored out of sight and a bayonet point to plug into.
That is a wider spread than most districts throw up, and it is why this page reads differently from the others.
Three things Breightmet calls me out for
Breightmet runs from the older housing along Bury Road out to the post-war estates around Long Lane and Oakenbottom, with a good deal of it rented. Three jobs keep coming back.
Heating mains that were never big enough
One Breightmet survey found the heating mains running in 22mm for the first three metres and then dropping to 15mm for the whole rest of the house. That was normal once. It is not any more: Approved Document L now requires a newly installed or fully replaced wet system to be designed to run at 55°C flow or lower, and that needs 22mm mains throughout. It turned a job that started as “add a radiator” into a proper system replacement — and it is the sort of thing worth knowing before you buy a boiler rather than after.
Four certificates in one morning, not four separate visits
A landlord with several Breightmet properties had them serviced and certificated in one run rather than one call-out at a time. If you own more than one property here it is worth asking for them to be grouped — it is less of my time and fewer trips, and I would rather do it that way too.
Outside taps, and getting them right
Two hot outside taps in Breightmet in the same stretch. It sounds like a five-minute job and it is not: it needs the right take-off point, an isolation valve you can actually reach, and protection so a winter does not split it. Done properly once beats a burst pipe behind the wall in February.

Covers travel and the first 90 minutes on site. Each further half hour is £45. Parts are quoted and agreed after I have diagnosed the fault, never before.
Boiler service £105
Flat, whatever the make. A gas fire service is the same. Add a gas safety record for £150 all in — that is the boiler on the certificate, and £10 for each other gas appliance added to it.
New boiler from £1,799 fitted
A like-for-like combi swap, system flush and magnetic filter included. Moving the boiler, changing system type or coming off a back boiler is priced above it, after a look.
Everything else
Gas safety record on its own £99 for the first appliance, £10 each extra. Leak detection and trace £180, covering travel and the first 90 minutes, with a written report for an insurer at £60. Cancellation or missed appointment £66.
Fixed-price bookings made online — the £105 service and the £132 call-out — take the full amount at the time of booking, and that payment is the whole price for the visit. Quoted work such as a boiler install or a bathroom takes 50% at booking with the balance on completion.
How a Breightmet job runs
- You book a real slot, not a callback. The online form takes the date and the payment, so the job is in my diary rather than on a list I get back to.
- You get a text with an ETA and a live tracking link when I set off. A mile away means that window is about as short as it gets.
- The certificate is completed on site and emailed before I leave, and the appliance is registered with the manufacturer on your behalf.
- I remind you at about eleven months, so the next service does not creep up on you.

Can you run a gas supply for something other than a boiler?
Yes — I have built an LPG supply in Breightmet for a barbecue, with the bottles stored out of sight, a regulator, an isolation valve, a gas level indicator and a bayonet point to plug into. Anything like that gets surveyed first and certificated after.
