A heat pump done well starts with a room-by-room heat loss survey, not a sales pitch. The survey and the system design are done by a specialist heat pump designer. I handle the grant, and I do the installation.

What I install

Mitsubishi Electric Ecodan air source heat pumps, paired with a properly sized hot water cylinder and controls that make sense. The outdoor unit goes on a concrete base or anti-vibration feet; the indoor side is finished to the standard in the photos below. Every install is logged with photographs.

What does it cost?

You get a straight estimated figure first, free — tell me about the house and I will say roughly what it looks like, so you know whether the numbers work before you spend a penny. If you want to go ahead, a £399 heat loss survey turns that into an exact written price, with the £7,500 grant off the total and VAT at 0% on qualifying installations.

What about the £7,500 grant?

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives £7,500 towards an air source heat pump in England and Wales. Homes off mains gas heated by oil or LPG can currently get a further £1,500. The paperwork is sorted for you as part of the job.

Is my house suitable?

Most are, with honest caveats. The free estimate gives you an early answer, and the £399 heat loss survey settles it properly — insulation, radiator sizes and hot water use all get measured. If a heat pump is the wrong answer for your house, I say so, and you keep your boiler.

Who turns up?

Chris. The survey and the system design are done by an independent heat pump designer who does nothing else. The installation is me — I fit it, commission it, sign it off and come back to it. No subcontracted install crews.

It is designed before it is installed.

A heat pump only works as well as the survey behind it. Room-by-room heat loss first, equipment ordered second — never the other way round.

How an installation goes

  1. Enquiry, and a free estimate. A short conversation about the house and how you heat it now, then a straight estimated figure — free, so you can decide whether it stacks up before spending anything.
  2. Heat loss survey — £399. Room-by-room measurement of what your house actually loses, carried out by the independent heat pump specialist I work with. The survey is chargeable because it produces the thing of value: calculations and sizing you could take anywhere.
  3. System design and MCS sign-off. The full design and the MCS certification the job runs through, which is what makes the £7,500 grant claimable on my installations.
  4. One written price. The installed cost with the £7,500 grant shown off the total. No pressure, and no follow-up calls every other day.
  5. The grant application. Boiler Upgrade Scheme paperwork submitted before installation.
  6. Installation and commissioning. Fitted by Chris, commissioned, explained in plain English, and logged with photographs.

Heat Pump Systems

Installation and maintenance of air source heat pumps — foundation core plus ASHP, non-refrigerant circuits. NICEIC certificate 24/JHP-3/156/0301.

Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems

The survey, the system design and the MCS certification are not mine. They are done by an independent heat pump design specialist I work with, and it is their MCS registration the job is put through — which is what makes the Boiler Upgrade Scheme available on an installation I carry out.
