Where I cover around Ainsworth
The BL2 5 postcodes — the village itself along the Bolton to Bury road, Church Street, Knowsley Road, Greenside and Delph Lane, the lanes and closes off them, and the outlying houses towards Bradley Fold and Radcliffe.
There is one flat call-out charge across the whole 20-mile area, so a village address costs you nothing extra. The only thing distance changes is how quickly I can be there, not the bill.
What I actually get called to in Ainsworth
Ainsworth is a stone village rather than a Bolton suburb, and it is worth saying plainly that it sits in Bury Council’s area, not Bolton’s, even though the postcode is BL2 and the road signs point at Bolton. That changes nothing about what I charge or how quickly I can get there. It does change who you talk to about anything that needs council consent.
The building stock is genuinely different from the rest of my patch. Most of it is local buff-grey sandstone laid in courses, much of it from the early 1800s onwards, including the row of back-to-back cottages built for quarry workers around 1830 on Church Street and Delph Lane. There are six Grade II listed buildings in the village, and the old centre is a conservation area.

Solid stone walls, and sizing the system for them honestly
These houses were built long before cavity walls, so there is no cavity to fill and the heat loss is higher than a modern house of the same size. That is not a reason to oversize a boiler and hope — it is a reason to work the heat loss out properly and size the radiators to match. A boiler quoted without anyone asking about the walls is a boiler quoted on a guess.
Anything that changes the outside of the building
The old village is a conservation area with several listed buildings in it. A new flue terminal, external pipework or a heat pump unit outside can all need permission that would be nobody’s business at all a mile down the road. I will tell you if I think your job is one of those, so you can check with Bury Council before anything is ordered rather than after it is fitted.
Flue routes in a back-to-back cottage
The quarry workers’ cottages are genuinely back-to-back, which means there is no rear wall to terminate a flue on and the options are limited to the front, the roof, or moving the boiler. It is solvable, and it is the sort of thing worth establishing before you buy an appliance rather than on the morning of the fit.

Flat, whatever the make. A gas fire service is the same. Add a gas safety record for £150 all in — that is the boiler on the certificate, and £10 for each other gas appliance added to it.
New boiler from £1,799 fitted
A like-for-like combi swap, system flush and magnetic filter included. Moving the boiler, changing system type or coming off a back boiler is priced above it, after a look.
Everything else
Gas safety record on its own £99 for the first appliance, £10 each extra. Leak detection and trace £180, covering travel and the first 90 minutes, with a written report for an insurer at £60. Cancellation or missed appointment £66.
Fixed-price bookings made online — the £105 service and the £132 call-out — take the full amount at the time of booking, and that payment is the whole price for the visit. Quoted work such as a boiler install or a bathroom takes 50% at booking with the balance on completion.

Common questions
You are in Bolton. Do you actually cover Ainsworth?
Yes, and it is closer than a lot of Bolton is. It is about three miles from me, well inside the seven-mile band where same-day is realistic. The fact that the village is in Bury’s area rather than Bolton’s makes no difference to the price or the availability.
My cottage is stone and listed. Can I still have a new boiler?
Almost always, but where the flue comes out and where any pipework runs need thinking about first, and that is a conversation with Bury Council rather than something to find out afterwards. I will flag it if I think your job needs it.
Is a heat pump realistic in a solid stone house?
It is a survey question, not a phone question. It comes down to the real heat loss, whether the radiators can run cooler, and where a cylinder would go. If the house is not ready for one, I will say so rather than sell you one that disappoints you.
Do you service unvented cylinders?
Yes. It needs a separate ticket beyond Gas Safe and I hold it — the Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems certificate, in compliance with G3 of the Building Regulations. It is worth checking that whoever works on yours has it.
