Being local is worth something, and it is worth less than people pretend
Every other page on this site tells you how far away I am. This one cannot, because BL2 2TA is in Tonge Fold — it is the point every other distance on the site is measured from. If you are on the next street I can often be there the same morning.
What it does not mean is a cheaper price or a bumped queue. The call-out is £132 here exactly as it is twenty miles out, and a job already booked in Bury does not get moved because someone nearer rang. Living round the corner buys you a short wait, not a different set of rules.

There is one flat call-out charge across the whole 20-mile area, so Tonge Fold is not priced differently from anywhere else and travel is already inside it. What being here buys you is the shortest possible wait when the diary allows, and someone who knows which streets flood, which back entries a van will not fit down, and where the stopcocks tend to be.
What I actually get called to in Tonge Fold
Recent Tonge Fold jobs on my system include a Vaillant throwing an F62 that turned out to be a leaking gas valve, boiler servicing, landlord gas safety certificates renewed before they expired, and taps.

Tonge Fold is mostly interwar and post-war housing between Crompton Way and the Croal, much of it owner-occupied and a decent share of it rented. Three jobs keep coming back.
A fault code is where the diagnosis starts, not where it ends
One Tonge Fold boiler was throwing an F62. The code points at a gas valve area fault, but it does not tell you which part has gone. Stripping it down found the gas valve itself leaking, and that is what was replaced. Reading the code off the screen and quoting a new boiler is quicker for me and much more expensive for you.
And sometimes the same fault comes back
That same boiler dropped its hot water again later and the code returned. I would rather put that on the page than pretend every repair is final. Some faults have a second cause sitting behind the first, and the honest answer is to go back, look again, and tell you if the economics have changed.
Certificates that run out without telling you
A landlord certificate on a Tonge Fold rental came up for renewal and the reminder caught it before the expiry rather than after. Nothing about a gas safety record warns you it is about to lapse — the system that flags it eleven months on does. It costs nothing and it is on every job I do.

Flat, whatever the make. A gas fire service is the same. Add a gas safety record for £150 all in — that is the boiler on the certificate, and £10 for each other gas appliance added to it.
New boiler from £1,799 fitted
A like-for-like combi swap, system flush and magnetic filter included. Moving the boiler, changing system type or coming off a back boiler is priced above it, after a look.
Everything else
Gas safety record on its own £99 for the first appliance, £10 each extra. Leak detection and trace £180, covering travel and the first 90 minutes, with a written report for an insurer at £60. Cancellation or missed appointment £66.
Fixed-price bookings made online — the £105 service and the £132 call-out — take the full amount at the time of booking, and that payment is the whole price for the visit. Quoted work such as a boiler install or a bathroom takes 50% at booking with the balance on completion.
How a Tonge Fold job runs

- You get a text with an ETA and a live tracking link when I set off. From here that is usually a couple of minutes.
- The certificate is completed on site and emailed before I leave, and the appliance is registered with the manufacturer on your behalf.
