Heating and plumbing across Bolton

Rated 5.0 on Google

I am Chris Greenhalgh — Gas Safe and CIPHE registered, and I live in Tonge Fold. Bolton is not somewhere I drive out to — it is where I already am.

I do not cover Bolton. I live in it.

Gas Safe registered, working on Bolton boilers, bathrooms, cylinders and leaks myself — no call centre, and nobody else turning up in my name.

Every part of Bolton is inside the seven miles. Here is the proof rather than the claim.

I cover about twenty miles around BL2 2TA but only claim same-day availability inside seven of them, and I say so on every other page on this site. Bolton is the one place where that line does not bite: town centre 1.4 miles, Breightmet 1.1, Darcy Lever 1.4, Harwood 2.2, Bradshaw 3.1. Every one measured on the map, not guessed.

So if you are in Bolton and I say I cannot get to you today, it is because the diary is full, not because you are too far. I will tell you which it is.

Bolton district by district

Each of these has its own page, written from the jobs I have actually done there rather than the same paragraph with the name swapped.

Tonge Fold

My own street. BL2 2TA is here, which makes it the nought-mile mark that every other figure on this site is measured from.

Breightmet

1.1 miles, four minutes. Landlord portfolios, outside taps, and the heating mains that turn out to be too small for the job.

Darcy Lever

1.4 miles, five minutes. Heat-only boilers, waste pipes that pull apart, and new water mains from the boundary.

Harwood

2.2 miles, six minutes up Crompton Way. Heat pumps, whole-house bathroom projects and drains that are not doing their job.

Bradshaw

3.1 miles, ten minutes on the A58. Strip-down servicing, condense pipes and filling loops, and new gas supply pipework.

Astley Bridge

About three miles north, up Blackburn Road. Victorian and Edwardian terraces off Belmont Road and Seymour Road, and the heat-only boilers and cylinders still in them.

Great Lever

A couple of miles south. Terraced streets off Green Lane and Crescent Road, heat-only boilers and cylinders, and bathrooms in houses built long before fitted bathrooms.

Ainsworth

About three miles out, and Bury Council rather than Bolton. Stone cottages off Church Street and Delph Lane, solid walls, and pipework that has to be routed around them.

The rest of Bolton is covered exactly the same — Halliwell, Deane, Heaton, Smithills, Bromley Cross and Egerton included. They have no page of their own yet for one reason: I have not done enough work in them to write anything that would be true, and I would rather leave a gap than pad it out.

What I actually get called to across Bolton

Across the town in a normal month: boiler servicing and gas safety records, boilers that keep locking out, radiators and valves, unvented cylinder checks, bathroom and shower installations, leaks traced before anything gets cut open, and the occasional heat pump. Some of it is a ninety-minute call-out and some of it runs over several days with a builder.

The mix changes by district, which is the honest reason these pages are not interchangeable. Bradshaw calls me out for different things than Breightmet does.

What it costs

Every figure below is the same in every part of Bolton, and the same in every town around it.

Call-out £132

Covers travel and the first 90 minutes on site. Each further half hour is £45. Parts are quoted and agreed after I have diagnosed the fault, never before.

Boiler service £105

Flat, whatever the make. A gas fire service is the same. Add a gas safety record for £150 all in — that is the boiler on the certificate, and £10 for each other gas appliance added to it.

New boiler from £1,799 fitted

A like-for-like combi swap, system flush and magnetic filter included. Moving the boiler, changing system type or coming off a back boiler is priced above it, after a look.

Everything else

Gas safety record on its own £99 for the first appliance, £10 each extra. Leak detection and trace £180, covering travel and the first 90 minutes, with a written report for an insurer at £60. Cancellation or missed appointment £66.

Fixed-price bookings made online — the £105 service and the £132 call-out — take the full amount at the time of booking, and that payment is the whole price for the visit. Quoted work such as a boiler install or a bathroom takes 50% at booking with the balance on completion.

How a Bolton job runs

  1. You book a real slot, not a callback. The online form takes the date and the payment, so the job is in my diary rather than on a list I get back to.
  2. You get a text with an ETA and a live tracking link when I set off. Nowhere in Bolton is more than about ten minutes from me.
  3. The certificate is completed on site and emailed before I leave, and the appliance is registered with the manufacturer on your behalf.
  4. I remind you at about eleven months, so the next service does not creep up on you.

Same engineer, same price, whichever side of Bolton you are on.

You deal with me from the first message to the certificate. That is the whole business, and it is why the work is backed by a 24-month workmanship guarantee on heating, gas and plumbing.

Common questions

Which parts of Bolton do you cover?

All of them, and the same for every one. The five districts above have their own pages because I have enough work there to write something specific; the rest are covered identically and simply have not earned a page yet.

Do you charge more for the far side of town?

No. One flat £132 call-out across the whole 20-mile area, travel included. Since the far side of Bolton is about three miles from me, there would be nothing to charge for anyway.

Can you come out today?

Often, because everywhere in Bolton is inside the seven miles where I claim same-day. Whether I can depends on the diary, not the distance, and I will tell you which it is rather than leave you waiting in.

Do you do landlord gas safety certificates in Bolton?

Yes, including whole portfolios in one run. £99 for the first appliance and £10 for each extra on the same certificate, or £150 with a boiler service included. The record is completed on site and emailed the same day.
